Guiding was officially started in 1912 with the registration of a Girl Guide Company in Mutare ( then Umtali)
From 1912 – 1967 , because of the status of the country as a colony of the UK, guiding fell under the umbrella of UK Guiding and was covered by their constitution.
1967- 1969 , The then Girl Guide Association of Rhodesia was working towards, and successfully attained Tenderfoot status (Associate Membership ) of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The Association’s first constitution as an independent organisation from the UK was formulated.
In 1972 , the Girl Guides Association of Rhodesia was admitted into ful membership of WAGGGS.
In 1980 , when the country gained its independence from the UK , the Association’s name was changed to The git guides Association of Zimbabwe
In 2015 the Association again underwent a name change to girl guides Zimbabwe.The first Constitution of the Association as a Commonwealth country was in 1969 with several revisions until 1980 when the country gained independence . Since 1980 the constitution been revised in 1991, 1994 , 1996 , 2001, 2004 and 2016
